Young Poets Competition

2018 Young Poets Competition Winner
Jack Ponting
Aged 10

On Budleigh Beach…

In tall, red cliffs
that edge the land
wrapped amongst
the towering sand.

It has no thoughts,
no brain, nor head.
But Triassic tales
come from its bed.

Within the cliff
are bits of bone,
that many years
have turned to stone.

Time after time
The cold waves hit,
breaking down the rock
bit by bit.

On Budleigh beach;
a tumbled ride,
in the reaches
of the tide.

In summer months,
the sea is calm.
The smoothened treasure
fills my palm.
