Our main aim

Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival was established in 2009 and is a registered charity.

Our main aim is to fund, organise and promote the annual 5-day Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival in September and its Spring Events. Our events are attended by members of the public who come to the Festival from near and far.

We also take authors and illustrators into schools across East Devon and provide a programme of events for families during our Festival in September, to inspire children and help them to grow a love of books and reading which will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Creating a love of reading

Strong literacy and a love of reading go hand in hand with well-being and life chances. Research shows that children who read do better in school and in later life.

Another aim is to make sure children have the best possible access to great books and writing, and by taking authors and illustrators into schools to talk about their work at no cost to the school, we are ensuring that we reach as many children as possible and engage them in a lifetime of enjoying the written word. For more information about our work in schools, please look at our Festival in Schools page.

We would like to do even more. Together, we can help change the lives of children and transform their future by giving free books to kids. If you can help us financially in that aim, please look at our donate page here.
