The very popular South West-based novelist returns to Budleigh to talk about his latest novel, set in 1970s Western-Super-Mare where ten-year-old oddball Eustace, an only child, has his life transformed by his mother’s quixotic decision to sign him up for cello lessons. Drawing in part on his own boyhood, the novel explores a collision between childish hero worship and extremely messy adult love lives.

Patrick Gale is the author of several acclaimed novels including the award-winning Notes from an Exhibition and A Perfectly Good Man. His screenplay, Man in an Orange Shirt, with Vanessa Redgrave aired on BBC2 last year and his last novel, A Place Called Winter, was a Sunday Times bestseller.
