‘Huge thanks for all the organisation that went into putting on the festival. It was so wonderful for my two children and us as a family, and so great to have some much-needed culture for their age. The prices were all so reasonable and the activities themselves were fantastic quality. The staff were all super helpful and friendly and made the children feel special, giving them confidence and an even greater love for all things book-related. The tent activities were obviously so well thought out, and gave the children so much to do.’

What we did in September 2022
As a charity, the Festival is very keen to make our events as inclusive and accessible to everyone so that everybody has the chance to get involved. In 2022 we offered our Family Events at very low prices so that they as affordable as possible.
The Mini Marquee was buzzing with free drop-in events to celebrate 70 years of children’s books. Join us for craft, games and bookish fun. Plus there was a book trail around Budleigh so keep your eyes peeled…

We held events for ages 2 to 12 and the fabulous authors appearing included Steven Lenton with the latest in his Genie and Teeny series, Steven Butler creator of Spooked – The Theatre Ghosts, and Kristina Stephenson’s Museum of Marvellous Things – a sell out event!
The acclaimed Aardman Model Making Workshops, also sold out again this year with participants able to create famous figures from Nick Park’s iconic films including Timmy, Lu-la and the villainous Feathers McGraw.
Storyteller Cat Weatherill inspired children with her enchanting storytelling. Local author Triona Harris shared her two new books with the chance to plant your own tree seed and draw rainbows. And we were joined by the East Devon musical workshop team Wren Music who shared an interactive music and words workshop creating a musical accompaniment for favourite stories.
