Shadow State: Murder, Mayhem and Russia’s Remaking of the West

Available to view from 11am, Wednesday 16th September 2020

Luke Harding,Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival

At a time when Alexei Navalny alleged poisoning is dominating the headlines, we are delighted to welcome back the award-winning foreign correspondent for the Guardian. He’ll be talking about the profile of Russia today, and  his gripping investigative account of how Russia’s spies helped elect Donald Trump, backed Brexit, murdered their enemies and threatened the very basis of western democracy, using spies to wage an increasingly bold war in the UK and beyond.

Luke was based in Russia until 2011, when he was refused re-entry to the country due to his critical writings on the Russian government. He’ll be talking to Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland.

The Virtual Festival programme 2020 is brought to you free of charge. If you've enjoyed an event, please consider making a donation to support our charitable outreach work for young people and in schools.
