Books for Kids
This year, The Budleigh Literary Festival is raising money to give FREE books to children.
The pandemic has highlighted more than ever the need for young people to engage in their education and learning and to be inspired. There is no greater damage to life chances than poor literacy. Reading can have both an immediate and long term impact.
Bernadine Evaristo's favourite book isn't from the vast number she borrowed from her local library or read at school. It was a copy of Ballet Shoes which she owned as a child and still has on her bookshelf. Owning a book can fundamentally change a young reader's relationship with books, but one in 11 children doesn't have a single book at home.
Please can you help us to help them?
With your help we would like to give as many children in East Devon as we can a book of their own.
We have already distributed over 800 books across nine local schools and are making provision to create book bundles to be donated to school libraries when they attend one of our festival author's events.
We would like to do even more. Together we can help change lives and transform futures
