Sometimes the remarkable comes out of the unremarkable and we welcome two authors who explore so sensitively the tapestry of our complicated average lives. Tulip Fever and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel author, Deborah Moggach, is ‘at the height of her powers’ according to the Sunday Times in her latest novel The Black Dress. Pru who, abandoned by her long-term husband to contemplate her future alone, buys a black dress and discovers a strange new world attending the funerals of people she’s never met. Writer, FT colunmnist and daughter of Lucian Freud, Susie Boyt explores the lengths we will go to in protecting those we love in her new novel about maternal love and addiction, Loved and Missed, and described by Philippa Perry as ‘a total pleasure’.
