Poetry, Short Stories and Novels – A Life in Writing

Date: Thursday 19th September 2019
Venue: St Peter’s Church
Time: 5.30pm
Tickets: £12 (Students: £10)

It’s a rare gift in a writer to be able to conquer novels, poetry and short stories with the same measure of skill and expertise.

Author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, sold over 2.5m copies, and celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, Louis de Bernières will be talking about Labels and Other Stories, his collection that includes Gunter Weber’s Confession which revisits characters from Captain Corelli, and his new novel, So Much Life Left Over, set in Ceylon during the interwar period. Both manifest his wit and ability to write with warmth and charm.

‘Louis de Bernières is in the direct line that runs through Dickens and Evelyn Waugh.’ Evening Standard
